Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte, NC, Presents Annual Juried Exhibit & Works by James Denmark
The Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte, NC, will present its Annual Juried Exhibition and Figures and Forms: 3 Dimensional Adventures with Space, featuring the fine art of nationally renowned artist James Denmark, on view from Sept. 9 through Dec. 30, 2005.
The juried exhibit will include works from
local, regional and national artists; past entries have included
works by Samuel Hodges, Pat Caborie, TíAfo Feimster, Jim
Biggers and many others. Categories include drawing, printmaking,
photography, jewelry, sculpture and master crafts.
AACC Exhibit Curator Eric Wilson will lead a distinguished panel
of art professionals from the Charlotte region to judge the bodies
of works. Panelist will include deputy director of the Mint Museum,
Arts in Transit program manager of Charlotte Transit Authority
and artist manger of McColl Center for Visual Arts; and nationally
recognized and AACC's featured artist James Denmark.
This exhibit will be held in collaboration
with nationally acclaimed Charleston native James Denmark, who
has a natural affinity for the difficult and largely improvisational
medium of collage. Denmark is most famous for collages, watercolors,
woodcuts and reproductions. He has presented over 60 one-man exhibitions
and his acclaim is reflected in the number of prestigious collections
in which he is featured; most notable being the Metropolitan Museum
of Art in New York.
Denmark has an MFA from Pratt Institute of Fine Arts of New York
and is graduate of Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University
(FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida. He has been creating bodies of
work for more than 30 years.
