Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, Offers Exhibit of Works Based on Polo Tournament
In conjunction with the United States Polo Association's (USPA) 2005 Gold Cup Tournament, Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, SC, will host the Polo Art Exhibition and The Miniature Paintings of Syed A. Wasif from Sept. 12 through Oct. 21, 2005.
Sponsored by the USPA, the exhibition will
feature seven artists well known by the USPA including Heidi Birath
(pencil and egg tempura), Melinda Brewer, Anne Lattimore (oils),
David Lominska (digital photography), Tina Marrero (oils and acrylics),
Karen Pimsner (colored pencils) and Shelly Schmidt (photographer).

of Syed A. Wasif includes traditional miniature paintings
in Indian Mughal style.
Wasif is a Pakistani-American artist who graduated with a major in oil painting and miniature painting from the National College of Arts, Lahore. This institution is the only art university in the South Asian region where miniature painting (in its traditional and truest form), was revived in the early 1960s under the famous miniature painter, the late Hajji M. Sharif.
Wasif worked for 27 years with the United States Foreign Service at the US Consulate, Karachi, Pakistan, as the arts and graphics specialist/cultural affairs assistant. His work has been displayed at the Annual Asian American Heritage Exhibition and at Kennesaw University (GA) as part of its program on South Asia and Pakistan.
