Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Patricia Miranda
Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, is proud
to continue its series of visiting artist's exhibits. The
series, NO BOUNDARIES, introduces emerging artists to the
community and allows collectors to get to know them through small
intimate exhibits. The third NO BOUNDARIES will introduce
New York artist Patricia Miranda and her series of abstract paintings
of symbols found in medieval manuscripts. The exhibit will
open on Sept. 23 and continue through Oct. 8, 2005.
Miranda's series of paintings focuses on the striking geometric
patterns often found in medieval manuscripts. These patterns
were frequently used to create unearthly space, backdrops for
heavenly events, pointing out the holiness of a particular image. The
artist uses these patterns and paints them out of their normal
context, changing the dynamic of the image while retaining the
structure. Miranda is able to reinterpret an ancient vision
with a modern abstract sensibility still allowing the patterns
to maintain and exude their own holy quality.
Miranda uses all natural pigments and grinds stones, insects, earth, and flowers to create her own paint. She then introduces gold leaf to her paintings as a source of light and color. The marriage of materials and content brings a sense of unity - linking image, content, and materials - past, present, and future.
Miranda recently received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Multidisciplinary Story Arts program with homeless youth with 9 other artists. She exhibits her work all over the world including the Sakai City Municipal Museum, Sakai City, Japan and the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC. Miranda is the Founder of Miranda Fine Arts in Port Chester, NY, Co-Founder of Loftarts, and adjunct professor at the Lyme Academy of Arts, Old Lyme, Connecticut.
Miranda will speak about her painting process on Sept. 24, 2005, from 1-2pm.
