Greenville Technical College in Greer, SC, Features Works by Jack Schmidt
The Department of Visual Art at Greenville Technical College's Greer (SC) Campus announces Portrait of an Artist, by Jack Schmidt, on view from Sept. 8 through Oct. 25, 2005.
These black and white photographs of artists
working in the Greenville community will be on view in the Atrium
Gallery. A cross section of artists and disciplines has been
documented for this unique project that was partially funded by
a grant from the Metropolitan Arts Council.
In this body of work, Schmidt poses the question, "What defines
an artist?" What attributes are present in that definitive
description, if any. His images ask the viewer to determine if
artists do in fact share a commonality. Schmidt was invited to
meet with and interview many artists in their studios, working
one-on-one with them, researching and documenting as part of his
process.
