Frank Hobbs
Frank Hobbs is a plein-air painter from Virginia
whose inspiration comes from an interest in capturing the shifting
moments of light. He is particularly interested in painting the
tensions between ordinary realities in urban settings and pastoral
landscapes. He prefers to work on the site of his subject, enabling
the viewer to see what he sees.
Hobbs is a recipient of numerous awards, including the National
Endowment for the Arts/Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation Fellowship
and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art Fellowship. He maintains an
active exhibition schedule as well as teaching at Washington and
Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. Hobbs' work is
in the collections of Bank of America, CSX Corporation, and the
Virginia Bar Association to mention a few.
Keith Carter
Keith Carter is an internationally recognized
photographer and educator. This exhibition is a mid-career retrospective
of Carter's major works over the past twenty -five years. His
photographs capture divine and magical moments found through his
investigations of character and soul found in the landscape, people,
and animals of the deep south.
Born in Madison, WI, in 1948, Carter holds the endowed Walles
Chair of Art at Lamar University Beaumont, TX. He is the recipient
of two National Endowment for the Arts Regional Survey Grants
and the Lange-Taylor Prize from The Center for Documentary Studies
at Duke University. In 1997 Carter was the subject of an arts
profile on the national network television show, CBS Sunday
Morning. In 1998, he received Lamar University's highest teaching
honor, the University Professor Award, and he was named the Lamar
University Distinguished Lecturer.
In business since 1981, Hodges Taylor Gallery
represents contemporary artists of the southeast, including paintings,
