Touchstone Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by Skip Rohde, Dave Taylor and Ann Gleason
Touchstone Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, is presenting the exhibitions: Bush League, featuring portraits by Skip Rohde of Asheville, NC, as well as limited edition B&W photos from the series, Forest Nymph, and Fire, Steel & Imagination! and featuring metal sculptures by Dave Taylor of Leicester, NC. Both exhibits will be on view through Nov. 15, 2005. An exhibition of sculptural works by Ann Gleason will be on view from Sept. 15 through Nov. 21, 2005.
Rohde is an artist who tells stories through his images. These stories examine things he has found important in his life, many of which are universal human experiences. In the exhibit, Bush League, Rohde presents four oil on canvas portraits made by this Gulf War veteran. Additionally, five B&W photographic images from the artists' Forest Nymph series are on display.
Rohde maintains a studio in Asheville's historic River Arts District. He also teaches in the College for Seniors at the University of North Carolina at Asheville as well as in his own studio.
Dave Taylor recently moved to Western North Carolina from upstate New York. This former dentist, race car driver and sculptor now devotes all him imagination and energy to creating whimsical large-scale welded steel sculptures. His work featured in Country Living magazine has found its way to many private and corporate collections over the past twenty years.
Ann Gleason, whose functional pottery is widely
collected, has recently started to turn her attention to ceramic
sculpture.On view during this special feature at Touchstone will
be four pieces from this new series - including The Poet,
as well as Adam and Eve Riding Thru the Garden.
The gallery will also have examples of Gleason's functional pottery
available as well.
Touchstone Gallery is also presenting the ongoing exhibition entitled,
Portrait: Iraqi Freedom, featuring an installation of over
1,770 "dog tag" containing the names of American troops
killed since Mar. 2003; 192 Peace mandalas representing Coalition
troops killed; 13,560 + stars representing Americans wounded and
lastly, over 128 translucent bags containing over 128,000 seeds
representing Iraqi civilian deaths.
The gallery also carries a selection of UNICEF cards and stationary. And, is the regional coordinator for the Global Art Project 2006.
