Artist's Roundtable in Columbia, SC, Offers Fall Into Arts Event, Sept. 22 - 24
A group of like-minded poets, painters photographers, performing artists, educators, and business people have joined together under the umbrella of the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties forming The Artist's Roundtable with the mission to shape the Columbia arts scene.
As a result of this
new group, artists are banding together Sept. 22-24, 2006, during
the Greek Festival on Main Street in downtown Columbia, to offer
a free public display of art. This art showcase will feature original
fine art from approximately 40 artists from the Columbia Metropolitan
area during the first annual festival called Fall Into Art.
"Several artists approached the Cultural Council because
they felt it was time to see a new paradigm shift in how the arts
and artists are viewed in Columbia," says Chuck LaMark, Director
of Development for the Cultural Council or Richland and Lexington
Counties. "Their newly formed group, The Artist's Roundtable,
is a grass roots type organization developed for artists by artists
to promote all types of performing and visual arts in the Columbia
area," he added.
LaMark noted that, "The main difference between this group and other groups is that it is a type of clearinghouse where all artisans can come and share their ideas with one another in a salon-style environment like they used to do in Paris back in the 1880's. Back then, you would see Picasso debating with Modigliani, Gertrude Stein and F. Scott Fitsgerald talking up their latest writings while a jazz musician played in the background."
Fall Into Art times are: Sept., 22 & 23, from 10am-7pm and Sept. 24, from noon-6pm.
The Greek Festival takes place, Sept. 21-24, 2006, from 10am-10pm & Sun. from noon-8pm.
