Gallery at Gettys
in Rock Hill, SC, Features Works by Lauren Peebles
The Gallery at Gettys in Rock Hill, SC, is presenting the exhibit,
Strangers, a photographic essay from local artist Lauren
Peebles, on view through Sept. 22, 2006.
Strangers explores the "possibilities" a single individual may have with themself and with others. In the photo series Peebles dressed up in a variety of clothes to become a different person but then shed the clothing to "meet herself" in the image. Her focus was to emphasize the feeling of isolation that each individual was experiencing and the reality that each stranger is analyzing the other in the picture.
"The fascination between the two people could be fleeting" Peebles explains, "no more than the fact that they look interesting or they wonder what their life is like after they walk out the door - but I attempted to ask the question to the viewer, what if? What if you were this person?"
Gallery at Gettys is also pleased to welcome award-winning artists Marge Loudon-Moody, Alfred McCloud and Stephanie Jordan as the Gettys Center's newest studio artists. The artists will be opening their spaces to the public in addition to the usual Gettys Center artists.
