September Issue 2006
HoFP Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Jeremy Carter
HoFP Gallery in Columbia, SC, opens Evolutions, a show of handmade guitars and paintings by Columbia native Jeremy Carter on Sept. 15. The exhibition continues through Oct. 7, 2006.
Carter spent his formative years on Devine Street, attending Dreher High School and playing music in Five Points. In 1995, Carter left South Carolina to study at the Totnes School of Guitar Making, in Devon, England. After receiving his Luthier's Certificate, he turned his focus to music and creative expression, attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and receiving his BFA in Sound and Multi Media. In Chicago, Carter performed with the Empty Bottle Improviser's Series and sold works from his Square People collection.
Though Chicago was good
to the young artist, he moved further west to Seattle. Carter
furthered his education through the workplace and volunteering.
He worked for an art supply chain, and at Dusty Strings, a harp
manufacturing company. He volunteered at Jack Straw Productions,
a non-profit recording studio. Carter also continued the music
duo begun in Chicago with his brother, Tim. Under the name CCI,
the two performed live on KEXP 90.3 FM and at the Center on Contemporary
Art. The CoCA also acquired multiple works by Carter.
After a few long winters, the artist returned to Columbia to be
closer to family. He has since displayed works at the Columbia
Art Museum, participating as part of a Contemporaries show. He
currently works in the art industry, and has his own woodworking
business, CCI Mediums. Carter also continues to perform music
and manages the WJK Studio, a private recording facility. This
will be his first solo exhibition in South Carolina.
