Maddi's Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Named Nation's Top New Gallery
Maddi's Gallery of Charlotte and Huntersville, NC was named "Best New Gallery" at the 2006 Niche Top Retailer Awards ceremony held July 21, 2006 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Sponsored by NICHE magazine, the recognition is awarded to Maddi's as the top craft retailer in the country in business for less than five years. More than 18,000 craft artists throughout the United States were polled for nominations, resulting in 700 finalists for Top Retailer Awards. A panel of independent judges selected the winners based on industry "best practices".
Maddi's Gallery is owned by Diane and Madis Sulg of Charlotte and was launched in Oct., 2002 at 1530 East Boulevard. In 2002, Maddi's opened a second location in Birkdale Village which is managed by family members Michaella and Jon Dalton. In 2004, (www.maddisgallery.com) added an e-gallery component to the business taking it nationwide.
Upon accepting the award, Diane Sulg told the audience, "We give three cheers to the artists who make the wonderful work in our galleries, to our great staff and all the designers and vendors who supply us. And most of all, cheers to the customers who have supported us and brighten our galleries every day. Thank you, Charlotte!"
This is the second consecutive year Maddi's Gallery won a nationwide award. In 2005, NICHE recognized Maddi's Gallery as one of the Top 100 Craft Retailers in the country, an honor rarely given a young business.
