Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Paintings by Lita Gatlin, Fred Sprock, and Kelly Sanford
Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, presents Point of View, a group exhibition featuring new paintings from Charlotte artists Lita Gatlin, Fred Sprock, and Kelley Sanford. The show will be on view from Sept. 1 - 30, 2006.
Georgia born Lita Gatlin,
began drawing at an early age but pursued a banking career after
college. Seven years ago, she began painting in oils and her passion
for this medium cultivated a new full time career. Gatlin's love
of the natural world is unmistakable as she transports the viewer
from the Tuscan countryside to our own rural Southeastern shoreline.
While her paintings are invigorated by a characteristic glow of
lively warm undertones, Gatlin's subject matter evokes tranquil
moments and spaces in time.
Charlotte native Fred Sprock has perfected the art of the understatement,
developing a reputation for subtle and skillful interpretations
of rural Carolina. His paintings celebrate rustic inspiration
with a sense of sacred stillness that envelops renderings of abandoned
artifacts and architecture. Sprock employs a muted color palette
and soft edges to create an atmospheric quality in his work. In
addition to Sprock's landscape paintings, this show includes a
series of whimsical and delightfully unexpected cocktail studies.
Kelley Sanford left the world of mortgage banking in 1999 to pursue
a professional painting career. Believing there is no substitute
for observing nature firsthand, Sanford paints from life whenever
possible. Her appreciation for the California and Russian Impressionists
is reflected in her brushwork and compositional choices. Sanford's
minimalist still life paintings reveal an affinity for the pallet
knife and a keen perception of spatial relationships. A lifelong
student of art, Sanford is eager to share her knowledge and offers
painting instruction to the public out of her studio space in
South Charlotte.
