Beet Contemporary Craft & Functional Art in Charlotte, NC, features paintings by James Norman

Beet Contemporary Craft & Functional Art in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Earth and Sky, featuring the paintings of local artist James Norman, on view from Sept. 5 -30, 2008. The exhibition consists of landscapes, figurative and still life works, predominantly oil on canvas.

Norman, currently lives in Mount Holly, NC, and he has a wide passionate following in the United States and abroad.

Norman has been painting for 35 years, which is surprising, because he doesn't look old enough. Was he painting at 5? His smiling eyes and boyish charm, I'm sure you'll agree, belie his age. Another surprising fact is that he sites his major influences as De Kooning and Sargent. These are very different painters, to state the obvious.

What you'll find when you peruse the paintings of Norman is a style all his own -
simplicity of design, textures and mood. When asked to describe his intent he answered, "I try to explore as many avenues as possible while maintaining a continuity of style." Norman is prolific and inspired. Come see his work. You won't be disappointed.
