Brookgreen Gardens Takes Sculpture
to Spartanburg, SC

Brookgreen Gardens in Pawley's Island, SC, will present 20 works from its world-renowned sculpture collection to audiences in the South Carolina Upstate. The long term exhibit entitled, Sculpture from the Garden: Brookgreen in the Upstate, will open to the public at Converse College, Wofford College and Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, SC, from Sept. 21, 2008 through Aug. 16, 2009.

Eight works of sculpture will be exhibited in the lobby of Phifer Hall at Converse College. Seven works of sculpture will be at the Chapman Cultural Center, in and outside the lobby area of the David Reid Theater and five works will be in the exhibition area of the Sandor Teszler Library at Wofford College.
"We wanted to introduce to Brookgreen Gardens' magnificent sculpture collection to the people in the Upstate and the neighboring areas of North Carolina," said Susu Johnson, a Trustee of Brookgreen Gardens and Converse College. "I know some people who have never seen or experienced the beauty of Brookgreen. So, we organized this exhibit to create more awareness of a national treasure located here in South Carolina."
