Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston,
SC, Offers Works from Personal Collection
Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Selections from the Nina Liu Collection, featuring works by some of the gallery's most prominent artists from the owner's personal collection. The exhibition will be on view through Sept. 30, 2008.
Among the items that appear in the exhibit are several works on paper by Aggie Zed. Since 1990 Zed's exhibitions at Nina Liu and Friends have included lush drawings and intriguing sculptures that feature animal and human forms. The drawings in this exhibition document changes in Zed's use of color and subject matter over the past two decades.
The exhibition also features a group of pastels by Eric Longo. In each of these drawings Longo has abstracted the nude human figure to the extent that it takes on a monumental, timeless quality. Longo uses both line and shading with deliberation, but the strength of each image is such that their creation appears to have been effortless for him.
Many of Michael Johnson's elegant photographs
of the American countryside dominate the exhibition. Johnson's
silver gelatin prints draw the viewer into the landscape. They
have an expansive quality that the frame barely contains.
