Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville,
NC, Offers Works by Patricia Cole-Ferullo
Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, will present the exhibit, Sacred Geometry, a show of new work by Patricia Cole-Ferullo, on view from Sept. 5 through Oct. 15, 2008.
Cole-Ferullo, a highly intuitive artist, began to paint in June following a long abstinence, wondered what would evolve. "As I was moving past the initial stages of clumsiness, I was deeply moved to express the constant dance between the two opposites," she says.
Cole-Ferullo's first paintings in her new studio in Tryon, NC (the Ferullos returned from Italy in Dec. 2007) are a series of six 20-inch round canvases titled, Ying/Yang, The Eternal Dance.
Ying/Yang is, in the artist's words, "the visible icon created by the ancient sages to represent the positive/negative, or dark/light relationships in nature and the universe. "The balance of Ying/Yang brings about the greatest good. Imbalance creates havoc in nature and in relationships."
The six works in the Ying/Yang series are set in the greater context of the exhibit, titled Sacred Geometry. Cole-Ferullo has long been interested in this subject as it applies to architecture.
"Sacred geometry," she says, "occurs when geometric shapes are brought together in patterns and proportions that generate positive energy." For example, a beautifully designed building.
In this new body of work, the artist continues to create paintings that are spontaneous abstractions based on her emotional response to and interconnection with nature. She continues to probe the mystery of the universe and man's relationship to it.
After receiving her BA in Art from Florida State University in 1952, Cole-Ferullo began her career in art education. She headed the Art Department and taught classes at Margate Junior High School in Margate, FL, while also teaching children's art classes at the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art. She later worked for various architectural design firms doing design, drafting and renderings.
