Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, Features Group Exhibition

The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard, NC, will present the exhibit, Artists of Lake Toxaway, on view from Sept. 2 through Oct. 3, 2008.

The exhibit was curated by Bette Coningsby, who has painted all her life. She was inspired by her artist grandmother and as a child she always preferred to draw and paint rather than playing outdoors. She started art lessons at a young age and won her first awards at 12. Coningsby studied painting and commercial art at Centenary College and worked as a graphic designer. She also received a BFA with a teaching certificate from Florida Atlantic University. She taught art in the school system for six years and continues to teach classes in Florida and North Carolina. Bette has explored all mediums but fell in love with oil and pastel, which she now works in and teaches exclusively.

"There are 20 fabulous artists chosen from the Lake Toxaway community," said Coningsby. Mediums include: pastels, oil, watercolor, acrylic and photography." Artists selected for this show include: Jim Hefley-oil; Leo Termin oil; Judy Termin pastel; Karen Phillips pastel and oil; Pat Morris-pastel; Katharine Bunny Jones-pastel; Richard Dellalonga-acrylic; Char Holbrook-pastel; John Jeter-watercolor; Sue Fazio-oil; Del Anderson-pastel; Carmen Ryan-pastel; Chris Davis-pastel; Carole King-oil; Retha Easterly-watercolor; Lynn Parrott-oil & pastel; Donna Parker-pastel; Bette Coningsby- oil & pastel; Nat Einstein-photography; and John Rinker-photography.
