Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC,
Offers Works by Bob Graham
If you like horses or cowboys this is the rodeo art show for you. Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, is displaying a preview show of Bob Graham's western paintings, through Sept. 30, 2008, entitled Fresh Perspectives from Saltwater Climes: American Portraits by Bob Graham. This is the title of a major one man exhibition of Graham's work that will be on display in the Boderlands Gallery located inside the Booth Western Art Museum in Catersville, GA (Jan 20 through Apr 19, 2009). This is quite an honor and Graham's first big national show.
"I just wanted the people of Charleston, and the people of South Carolina to have a chance to view some of my western-themed paintings before I send them to other galleries," states Graham. "They are so different from my regular subject matter."
After making two trips out West, visiting Nevada,
Arizona, Texas, and spending some time in Wyoming, Graham decided
to concentrate on a subject that has fascinated him since early
childhood. "I think every kid grew up playing cowboys and
Indians. I feel there is little cowboy spirit in all of us. There
is something to say about the cowboy way of life, the cowboy code
of ethics, if you will. You don't have to live out West to embody
the cowboy way of life. You just have to have the spirit of the
West in you. Cowboy is not just a word - its an attitude and a
way of thinking that becomes a total lifestyle," admits Graham.
The western cowboy always had to stay strong to meet whatever
came his way. "That is what I'm trying to capture in these
drawings and paintings - that free unconquerable spirit that is
the West that dwells deep within me. You never get to pick your
nightmares, you just have to put your head down and drive right
through 'em."
