Works by John Hooks Showing at Asheville Gallery of Art
Asheville Gallery of Art Artist of the Month for Sept. is Asheville, NC, painter John Hooks. Hooks, who came to Asheville after a career as an Art Director in Detroit and Chicago, has had a consistent passion to paint for nearly four decades. His early art studies took place at Wayne State University and the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. While in Chicago he continued his studies at the School of the Art Institute.
In his exhibit, Contemporary Realism Hook sees subject matter that others may pass by. He finds beauty in an old car lot sign, a collection of colored bottles or a favorite rocker.
The treatment of his paintings range from very realistic to
a freer, more casual
mode.
