Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum Hosts Two New Exhibitions
The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC, will host two exhibitions which will be on view through Sept. 26. The exhibit, Petals, will feature works by painter Sudie Payne Daves and the exhibit entitled, Feathers, features photographs by Reggie Daves.
Sudie Payne Daves' works reflect a passion and understanding of her natural surroundings. Best recognized for her luminous watercolors depicting Southern flora, Daves maintains a wide interest in underwater seascapes, Southern architecture and, her special interest, native and endangered plant species. More recently, her unusual technique with color has appeared in her depictions of brilliant tropical plants.
Reggie Daves' photographs preserve the natural places that are so precious by capturing a brief second of an animal or plant on film. He is able to convey to others some of the majesty that exists in the natural world, a place that is there for the taking for all. In his artist's statement, Daves explains his work as follows: "Invariably some animal or bird will do some unusual performance for me. All I have to do is capture it on film. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Still it is most enjoyable either way."
