Reflections Of Celtic And Appalachian Heritage at Catawba Sunrise Gallery

Catawba Sunrise Gallery in Black Mountain, NC, is presenting its 4th annual show of L. Gina Canter's series of artwork, primarily in acrylics and pencil. Canter's Reflections of Celtic and Appalachian Heritage will run through Oct. 31. Based on her combined Scots-Irish and Cherokee heritage, and her life in the Appalachian mountains in both KY and NC, these large paintings express her desire to preserve and honor the history of this ancestry and roots.

Currently a resident of Barnardsville, NC, Canter grew up in KY painting under the trained eye of her father. After studying art at Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State, and UNC-Asheville, she opened her home studio. There she continually works on a part of the three series she has begun. They are: Cherokee Legends, Appalachian Folk Life, and Celtic Legends. Through these themes she is committed to portraying legends, history, and reflections of folk life.
