Paintings by Ray Ellis to be Exhibited in Myrtle Beach
The Cheryl Newby Gallery in Myrtle Beach, SC, is preparing for an exhibition of paintings by the well-known American artist, Ray Ellis. The exhibit Ray Ellis - Recent Works, will run from Dec. 4 - Jan. 31, 2000 and will include both oils and watercolors. Ellis' paintings hang in museums and corporate collections throughout the US and in the White House. His works also hang in the American Embassies in London, Vienna and Brussels.
Ellis was born in Philadelphia, PA, and attended the famed Philadelphia Museum School of Art. His first one-man show was held in 1947 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Having lived for a number of years in Hilton Head, SC, and Savannah, GA, Ellis now maintains a home and studio on Martha's Vineyard, MA. In the early 80's, Ellis and Walter Cronkite collaborated on a series of fine art books which celebrated America's coastlines: South by Southeast, North by Northeast, and Westwind. In 1992, Ellis authored The Spirit of Golf with journalist Ben Wright. Most recently published are Coastal Images of America, and The Road to Ballybunion.
Cheryl M. Newby, Inc. has been the exclusive gallery representative in Myrtle Beach for original paintings by Ellis since 1987. The gallery also specializes in original antique prints and antique maps.
