October Issue 1999
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, to Show Works by Wayne Trapp
Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, will begin its Fall/Winter show schedule with a solo exhibition by nationally known painter and sculptor Wayne Trapp on view through Oct. 12. This exhibit of new works will feature oils on canvas, ink on paper, and the bronze and stone sculpture for which he is so famous.
Wayne Trapp was born and raised in a Pennsylvania coal mining town and, with the proper encouragement, went on to study art at Pratt Institute, New York, The Institute of Art, Pittsburgh, and Ohio State University. He has traveled extensively in Europe and Japan, finding inspiration everywhere he goes. Since 1980 Trapp has made his home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC.
Trapp is a passionate abstract expressionist, so much so in fact that his very distinctive style has inspired a whole generation of younger artists throughout NC. Rich color and impasto painting techniques give his subjects maximum emotional impact. His drawings, in charcoal and ink, focus on the human form in motion and mirror the spontaneity and elegance of Japanese calligraphy.
Trapp has important works in numerous collections nationwide including those of The Mint Museum, The Hunter Museum and the Hickory Museum of Art.
Also on exhibit in the Solo Gallery are new works in pastel on paper by Georgia based artist, Ronnie Offen. Offen uses pastel to capture the more intimate landscapes around us, from small garden scenes to country pastures. People are sometimes a part of her scenes, usually depicted deep within their own thoughts or enjoying a moment to themselves. This exhibition will be her first solo show at Gallery C and the new works on display include images of the Carolina Coast, Duke University campus in Durham, as well as other scenery familiar to all.
