Recent Constructions by Amy Levine & Recent Oils by Jenny Windsor to Show at Gallery C in Raleigh, NC

Gallery C, in Raleigh, NC, is proud to present the first major solo exhibition of works by Raleigh artist Amy Levine. Also showing in the gallery's Solo Room are recent landscapes by Jenny Windsor. Both exhibits will be on display through Nov. 13, 1999.

Amy Levine Jenny Windsor

Like contemporary artists Frank Stella and Elizabeth Murray, Levine creates constructions which challenge the distinction between painting and sculpture. Scenes of everyday life are embroidered into these unique mixed media reliefs, painted with rich expressionistic brushstrokes and color. Levine sets figures in a theatrical tableau with a suggestive narrative, but the content is left to the imagination of the audience.

Levine was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and its effect on her aesthetic can be felt strongly. She has a MFA from C.W. Post College and has studied painting in France as well as at the influential Art Students League in New York City.

Jenny Windsor, who lives in VA, works in oils on paper and canvas and captures the rural vistas from Eastern NC up through the Blue Ridge mountains. She received her BA from William and Mary and has been receiving awards for her work in juried shows for over ten years. Each of her works has a definite sense of time and place, of the quality of the air, and the sounds of nature.
