The Apple Pie Group Shows Work at Hilton Head Island Library
The Hilton Head Library on Hilton Head Island, SC, is presenting an exhibit entitled, A Slice of Hilton Head, by The Apple Pie Group which will be on view through Oct. 2, 1999.
The Apple Pie Group is eight local artists who get together to paint in the "plein air" style on location around the island. The members are: Lynn Parrott, Barb Snow, Liz Rufenacht, Vickie Bailey-Ebber, Peter Hadfalvi, John Norlander, and Peter Billman. They met during a Hilton Head Art League Workshop at the Self Family Art Center, on the island, and found the camaraderie of painting together to be so enjoyable that they decided to paint together on a regular basis.
The unusual name for the group arrived at the first gathering when Peter Hadfalvi (who is well known locally as an exceptional baker in addition to being an accomplished painter and photographer) launched the first session with one of his famous apple pies rather than a bottle of champagne. And so was born the official name of an unofficial group. All are also active members of the Hilton Head Art League with Barb Snow and Lynn Parrott serving on the Board of Directors of HHAL.
The exhibit at the library will have a good representation
of each members
work in a variety of styles including works in oil, watercolor
and pastels. The unique style of each member offers a wonderful
diversity to the exhibit.
Members of The Apple Pie Group have varied backgrounds in art; some with extensive training and careers in art, with others as relative newcomers to the local art scene on Hilton Head Island. Vickie Bailey-Ebber has had a solo exhibition at the gallery space of the Lancaster Art Council in Lancaster, SC, and was a recent featured artist at the Sea Pines Gallery of the HHAL. She also won the Howard Gallery Award at the recent SC Watercolor Society Annual Member Exhibition held in Myrtle Beach, SC, and the award-winning work is currently on tour to exhibition spaces around SC as part of the Watercolor Society's Traveling Exhibition of Top Award Winners.
Lynn Parrott recently held a solo exhibit at Slight Indulgence in the Sea Pines Center and has work included in a number of private collections. Peter Hadfalvi has won awards for some of his photographic images and Peter Billman is well known in local art circles and has work included in many private collections.
