Watercolors and Oils by Angela Bradburn at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County
The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County's Bassett Gallery in Camden, SC, will feature watercolor and oil paintings by Columbia artist, Angela Bradburn Jan. 6 - 31.
Bradburn's watercolor and oil paintings investigate the landscape and objects in it. "Our surroundings are an ever-changing resource just waiting to be incorporated into a painting. Observing a vista or a pinecone lying on the ground is a trigger to my imagination," she shares. "The challenge is to do all the conscious organization, planning and plotting, to build the abstract skeleton and form on which to hang a painting and then paint an image with feeling and emotion that appears effortless in its execution. Turning these everyday visions into artist expressions is an exercise that keeps my juices flowing and interested in painting."
"My goal is not 'pretty pictures' but interpretations of everyday things that create emotional involvement for the viewer and keep them entertained so they will want to take a closer look. The first crisp morning of fall, the smell of damp woods after a spring rain, the heat and humidity of a lowcountry marsh, or the sense of loss after a hurricane become inspiration for my paintings."
Bradburn is well known for her many exhibitions and painting workshops held throughout the state. Her teaching experience includes painting classes at the Columbia Museum Art School, Dutch Door Art Supplies, the Tri-District Arts Consortium at Columbia College, the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County and numerous regional workshops and programs.
She received her B.S. from the University of NC in Greensboro. She also studied additional art courses at Columbia College, the University of SC and with many nationally recognized watercolor instructors.
Bradburn has competed in many juried exhibitions, in 1997 she won First Place in the Hilton Head Art League Juried Exhibition and an award in the SC Watercolor Society 20th Juried Exhibition; in 1996 she won an award in the Southern Watercolor Society Exhibition and was selected for the American Watercolor Society Exhibition Traveling Show.
