Works by Alvin Outlaw at the North Charleston, SC, City Gallery
The City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Program will host an exhibit by artist Alvin Outlaw during the month of Jan. in the City Gallery at the Rhodes Center for the Arts. Outlaw, a pure Southern artist, resides in Georgetown, SC, where he operates a small studio and art gallery on Front Street. The work of this interesting artist developed from his life long love of painting and wood carving. A barber by trade, Outlaw began painting rural scenes from his past, growing up the son of farm workers in Sumter County, SC. His deep love for the people of his community and their great contribution to his life are beautifully portrayed in the simple, yet touching oil paintings of this self-taught artist.
The CBS sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond" has brought national attention to Outlaw's works. Several of his pieces were selected for use during a recent episode of the popular nighttime show.
