Red Piano Gallery Presents Ray Ellis/A Lowcountry Legend

The Red Piano Art Gallery on Hilton Head Island, SC, announced today their upcoming Fall 1999 exhibition entitled Ray Ellis/A Lowcountry Legend. The exhibit will be on view from Oct. 2 through Oct. 31.

Ellis remains the quintessential painter of our beloved Lowcountry capturing its natural beauty, people and wildlife in his highly praised and impressionistic style. The new paintings will depict endless meandering salt marshes, oyster roast gatherings, beachscapes, oystermen harvesting their bounty and various related subject matter.

Ellis attended the famed Philadelphia Museum School of Art and held his first one-man show at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1947. He has received the "Award of Merit" from the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City and is an elected member of the American Watercolor Society. Over the years, he has donated 15 paintings to the permanent collection of the Telfair Museum in Savannah, GA.

Ellis' paintings can be found in numerous private and museum collections throughout the world. He has contributed paintings to eight books, many out of print and still highly sought after. Walter Cronkite says Ellis "has the ability to see the beauty of almost anything and capture it in his paintings." David Shirey of the New York Times says Ellis' work "is alive with presence."
