Southern Circuit Film Tour Continues in Columbia, SC
The Columbia Film Society, in Columbia, SC, is one of the host for the 1999-2000 Southern Circuit Film Tour, a program of the SC Arts Commission. The Southern Circuit is a touring exhibition of six independent film/videomakers with their works; and is the only centrally-organized, regional program of its kind in the nation. The Circuit continues with Vanalyne Green's Saddle Sores: A Blue Western:, Thursday, Feb. 3 at 8pm.
Saddle Sores: A Blue Western is a tape about the desire many of us have to ignore history and the ways in which history retaliates. Vanalyne Green uses the experience of getting a sexually transmitted disease to speak about our attempts to evade history and the ways in which we "loose" knowledge and langusage, especially in situations that involve love and sex. Although Saddle Sores is about the machinery of romance it also charts a woman's desire to tell a different story about purity and contamination in the American West.
There will be a filmmaker reception, from 6:30-730pm, prior to the screening at 8pm at the Nickelodeon Theatre, located at 937 Main Street in Columbia, behind the State House.
Columbia's site for the 1999-2000 Southern Circuit is sponsored by Bravo, the independent film and video channel and Time Warner Cable.
Individual ticket prices are as follows: $3.50 for members of McKissick Museum and Columbia Film Society; $4.50 for seniors and students; and $6.00 for non-members.
