Southern Circuit Film Tour Begins at Nickelodean

The Columbia Film Society in Columbia, SC, will be one of the host for the 1999-2000 Southern Circuit Film Tour, a program of the SC Arts Commission. The Southern Circuit is a touring exhibition of six independent film/videomakers with their works; and is the only centrally-organized, regional program of its kind in the nation. This year's Circuit will open with S.R. Bindler's Hands on a Hard Body.

Hands on a Hard Body is a smash hit on the film festival circuit, where it won six awards including an audience award at the Austin Film Festival. The film is S.R. Bindler's directorial debut and was shot in his Texas hometown. Hands is the story of a contest in which the last person standing with one hand on a Nissan pick-up drives it home.

The Columbia Film Society has partnered with McKissick Museum in Columbia to present a kick-off reception for the first presentation of this year's season. The reception, featuring live jazz, heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be held at McKissick Museum, located at the top of the Historic USC Horseshoe, Thur., Sept. 16 from 6:30-7:30pm. After the reception the screening of the film will take place at 8pm at the Nickelodeon Theatre, located at 937 Main Street in Columbia, behind the State House.

Since Southern Circuit's inception in 1975, audiences have been presented new films and videos produced outside the commercial industry and have discussed the ideas directly with the filmmakers. The opportunity for both the audience and the film/videomakers has been invaluable and, equally important, is the recognition for the entire southeastern region. The Columbia site for the 1999-2000 Southern Circuit is sponsored by Bravo, the independent film and video channel and Time Warner Cable.

Season passes may be purchased prior to the first screening. Season passes include admission to opening reception and (1) admission for each of the (6) six screenings. Season tickets are $18. Individual ticket prices are as follows: $3.50 for members of McKissick Museum and Columbia Film Society; $4.50 for seniors and students; and $6.00 for non-members. It should be noted that only members of the Columbia Film Society and McKissick Museum can reserve seats. Seats must be reserved by 5:30pm the evening of the individual screening. Reserve tickets will be held at the Nickelodeon Theatre box office, 10 minutes prior to the screening. Unclaimed tickets will be sold.
