January Issue 2009

Adam Cave Fine Art Gallery in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Joseph Cave

Post-inaugural celebration at the Adam Cave Fine Art Gallery in Raleigh, NC, arrives on Jan. 23, 2009, in the form of raising a glass to the new administration in Washington, the Gallery's first birthday in this state capital city, and the opening of a solo exhibit by one of North Carolina's most popular and successful artists, Joseph Cave. The exhibition continues through Mar. 3, 2009.

Cave captures the hope and optimism of this special energetic inauguration period occurring in the midst of challenging national problems. As an example, Cave offers a calm and serene vista in a new oil painting of a country road projecting into the horizon, capturing the wistful public view of the future inspired by the new president.

Other North Carolina landscapes, florals, urban and harbor paintings by Cave are featured in this exhibit of recent works. He interprets the familiar subjects of the 19th century in his own new and brilliant, clear colors and easy, broad brushstrokes. The effect is fresh, 21st century vitality in paintings with the emotional appeal of the world's best-loved earlier works.

In addition to his well-known painting-style, this exhibit also reveals his prowess as an etcher and printmaker, Cave's second love. Mostly, they represent in black and white compositions, his favorite situations, including urban street scenes and shrimp-boat waterfronts. These smaller studies lend timelessness to their subjects.

Not only interpreting the nostalgic scenes of North Carolina in landscapes full of cows and horses, collards and cotton fields, Cave also brings his unique style to the Italian and Portuguese country-sides. He forgoes the classically bucolic European scenes, inadvertently choosing more challenging and specific local venues to paint. He has created a whole new style.
