Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Carl Blair

Elder Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Carl Blair, Divine Introspection, featuring a solo exhibition of paintings by South Carolina artist Carl Blair, on view from Dec. 3 - 31, 2010. The exhibition includes new works on canvas and on paper.

Born in Kansas in 1932 Blair grew up in a Depression-ravaged community but managed to find joy in expressing his artistic talents through painting. "Art is so big, so complicated, there is so much to learn. I am just beginning to learn" says Blair.

Blair has earned regional and national recognition for his paintings. His work is included in many private, public and institutional collections around the nation. He is considered by many to be one of the premier Southeast American artists.

In 2005, Blair was awarded the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts given by the governor of South Carolina. Through his forty-year role as an arts educator at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, Blair influenced thousands of aspiring artists, many who have gone on to pursue fulltime careers in the visual arts.

Blair's neatly organized studio is reflective of his personal style - organized and colorful with a bit of musicality thrown in. He paints intuitively and even his most recent work reflects the Kansas landscape of his youth. His studio if filled with music that continues to inspire him. Many of his paintings bear the titles of some of his favorite hymns and patriotic songs.

"Carl Blair continues to be a driving force behind the visual arts in the Southeast and I am thrilled to be able to present a collection of his most recent paintings through my gallery," says Larry Elder, owner of Elder Gallery.
