Charleston, SC, Offers Architecture, History, and Fine Art with 3rd Charleston Fine Art Annual
Charleston, SC, has been heralded as America's
most beautifully preserved architectural and historic treasure,
with a rich, 300 year heritage. Since its founding in 1670, Charleston
has played an important and often pivotal role in the course of
American history. In addition to its architectural and historic
significance, Charleston is rapidly gaining the reputation of
one of America's leading fine arts destinations.
Now is the perfect time to plan a trip to experience the fine
art available in Charleston. This year's Charleston Fine Art Annual
will be held from Nov. 2-4. Hosted by the Charleston Fine Art
Dealers Association (CFADA), this is the third Fine Art Annual
and offers art enthusiasts and collectors the opportunity to immerse
themselves in an array of fine art while enjoying the grace and
culture of Charleston.
The Third Fine Art Annual kicks off with special
gallery evening hours at ten of Charleston's premier galleries.
The CFADA galleries will be open on Nov. 2 from 5:30 to 8:30pm,
allowing for a leisurely tour of galleries with plenty of time
left to enjoy a meal at one of Charleston's many gourmet restaurants.
Additionally, there will be a complimentary trolley service running
between galleries. Each CFADA gallery will feature a special exhibit
and many of the artists will be on hand to personally meet visitors
during the Fine Art Annual.
On Nov. 3, CFADA will host their second annual Plein-Air Demonstration
from 9:45 to 11:30am at Washington Park at the corner of Meeting
and Broad streets. The event is free to the public and features
artist from each of the galleries demonstrating plein-air painting
techniques (painting in outdoor daylight). The proceeds from the
sale of these paintings will benefit the Gibbes Museum of Art
Acquisitions Fund. At 12:30pm, there will be an informal lecture
at the Gibbes Museum of Art, which is free with regular Museum
admittance.
Visitors to the Charleston Fine Art Annual won't want to miss
a special lecture on Saturday evening given by guest speaker,
Peter Tatistcheff, a world renowned art dealer and collector from
New York. The lecture entitled The Development of Figurative
Painting will be held at the beautiful historical Circular
Congregational Church located at 150 Meeting Street from 7-8pm.
The ticket price is $15 per person and tickets may be purchased
at any CFADA gallery or at the door.
