The Art Institute
of Charleston in Charleston, SC, Features Works by James Pratt
The Art Institute of Charleston in Charleston, SC, is presenting an exhibition of works by world-renowned artist James Pratt, on view in the Art Institute of Charleston Gallery through Oct. 14, 2009.
Pratt, a celebrated Charleston/New Zealand artist, is considered one of the "Modern Masters," and shares his palette knife paintings from around the world. He has discovered a way to combine his love for travel and painting by capturing images of villages, marketplaces and seaports. Through the use of his palette knife, Pratt achieves the suggestion of movement and changing light by adding textures which are thin or ridged. The paint stand outs and encourages a lively and impressionistic treatment, providing an exciting contrast of scale which adds greatly to the impact of the finished painting. His work is known by admirers as "you have either been there or you want to go there" pieces.
Pratt's work hangs in
private and public collections throughout the United States, France,
UK, Australia and New Zealand and he is pleased to have this opportunity
to share his art through the Art Institute of Charleston.
Pratt is one of the featured International artists onboard the
Princess Cruise Lines and he travels to many of the worlds Ports
of Call. He has two books in progress: a life story from the beginning
to his current work the other book is a Palette Knife instructional
book that will include a DVD. Pratt's studio and gallery is located
in the Hollywood/Meggett, SC, area.
