4th Charleston Art Auction Takes Place Nov. 7, 2009, in Charleston, SC

The Charleston Art Auction will present over 110 important paintings, sculpture and vintage prints by living and deceased artists who are generally associated with the South at the Renaissance Hotel on Wentworth Street in Charleston, SC, on Nov. 7, 2009, at 7:15pm. An illustrated catalogue is available for $25 and the entire selection of lots can be viewed online at the auction website (www.charlestonartauction.com).

Attendance is by reservation with a $50 contribution (includes catalogue) to the Charleston County High School Student Art Programs fund of the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association and all works will be available for preview at the hotel from 10am-7pm on the day of the auction. Call 843/785-2318 for reservations and further information.

The fourth annual event coincides with the Charleston Fine Art Dealers' Association's 11th Charleston Fine Art Annual weekend that benefits Charleston County High School Student Art Programs. Works created in Washington Park the morning of Nov. 7, 2009, will be included in the auction with all proceeds benefiting the Student Art Program. CFADA has raised over $100,000 during the past ten years for local students through their Fine Art Annual.

Auction principals Jack A. Morris, Jr., J. Ben Whiteside and David G. Leahy have over twenty-five years experience presenting fine art to collectors throughout the United States. "Our objective is to offer a showcase for the finest contemporary, representational work being created today" said Whiteside.

Artists presented will include Bobby Bagley, William Berra, Joe Bowler, Armand Cabrera, James Calk, Marc Chatov, Elaine Coffee, Jim Daly, John Carroll Doyle, Ray Ellis, Ted Ellis, Dan Gerhartz, Cassandra Gillens, Glenna Goodacre, Lindsay Goodwin, Russell Gordon, Jonathan Green, Chris Groves, Michael Harrell, Betsy Havens, Nancy Hoerter, Mark Horton, Mandy Johnson, Karin Jurick, Michael B. Karas, Milt Kobayashi, Jeff Legg, Joseph Lorusso, Dan McCaw, Danny McCaw, Dean Mitchell, Joseph Orr, George Pate, Pino, Joan Potter, Laura Robb, Jennifer Smith Rogers, Helen Rundell, Shannon Runquist, Marilyn Simandle, Betty Anglin Smith, Linda Kyser Smith, Loran Speck, Linda St. Clair, Sue Stewart, John Stobart, Rhett Thurman, Michelle Torrez, Karen Larson Turner, William Whitaker, Mary Whyte, Mickey Williams and Stephen Scott Young.

Morris, who came to the business with a museum background, is responsible for the expanded offering of important work by deceased Southern masters. "There is a renaissance of interest among collectors for fine Southern works" Morris said, "and our sale offers an opportunity for new and experienced buyers to make significant additions to their collections" pointing to works by John J. Audubon, J. Stewart Barney, Wenonah Day Bell, Virginia Fouche Bolton, Richard J. Bryan, Valeria Chisolm, Eliot Clark, Bette Lee Coburn, Jesse Conklin, George Cress, Edward von S. Dingle, Frank Galsworthy, William Halsey, Alfred Hutty, Joseph Jackson, Minnie Mikell Katherine Huger Middleton, Augusta Oelschig, May Paine, Hobson Pittman, Antoinette Rhett, Hattie Saussy, William Posey Silva, Alice Ravenel Huger Smith, Warren F. Snow, Stanley Sobossek, George W. Sully, David Thimgan, Eugene White and George Hand Wright, among others.

Also of special interest is a collection of small, Southern folk art oils by unknown artists that was assembled by a Massachuscetts gentleman in the 1930's and 1940's.

Collectors who are unable to attend the sale in person should contact Charleston Art Auction to make arrangements for absentee and telephone bidding prior to 5pm on Nov. 6, 2009. Sale results will be posted at (www.charlestonartauction.com) the week following the sale.
