Both exhibitions are on view through Oct. 31, 2009.
In our upper exhibit
space we will feature Lost Crossings: A Contemplative Look
at Western North Carolina's Historic Swinging Footbridges
which is a collaboration between photographer Shane Darwent and
author Katey Schultz. The work includes a 60-page book with essays
and color photos, an interactive map, a gallery exhibition, and
a public presentation.
There are 23 swinging bridges in North Carolina, 13 of which are
in Mitchell and Yancey Counties - including the oldest swinging
bridge in the state, dated to 1947. The exhibit focuses on the
swinging bridges of Mitchell and Yancey counties.
