Elder Gallery
Presents the Carolina's Largest Juried Art Show at Atherton Mill
in Charlotte, NC
Elder Gallery and Edens and Avant Company will present the juried exhibit, Carolina's Got Art!, on view at Atherton Mill in Charlotte, NC, from Oct. 2 - 30, 2009.
It is a rare occurrence for the Charlotte region to experience a visual art exhibition as broad as one which is to take place during the month of October. Carolina's Got Art! is a distillation of over eleven hundred original pieces of art which were submitted by artists living in the two Carolinas. Not since the 1980s when the Springs Industries hosted their annual art competition has such an impressive amount of Carolina-created artwork been offered to the public to view, enjoy and purchase.
Elder Gallery and Edens and Avant Company have joined forces to create the Carolina's largest juried art competition which will take place at historic Atherton Mill in Charlotte's trendy SouthEnd District. Noted New York art critic, writer and artist, Brice Brown, has undertaken the herculean task of selecting the best work from over 400 artists from North and South Carolina. Approximately 120 pieces were chosen to be included in the juried exhibition.
The goal of the exhibition is to showcase the wide range of art being created by artists living in the two Carolinas and to offer an opportunity to sell their work to visitors who are invited to attend the exhibition at no charge. The economic downturn has dealt a devastating blow to many visual artists and Carolina's Got Art! will offer over $8,000 in prizes to those artists whose work will be selected as the "best-of-the-best".
Revolving around the month-long exhibition will be several events designed to educate visitors. Brown will offer a public lecture and "walk-around" discussion of the art included in the show on Oct. 3, 2009, beginning at 11am. Atherton Mill will become studio space for local art groups and individual artists throughout the month. All events are free to the public.
