Spartanburg Art Museum in Spartanburg, SC, Features Works by Andy Warhol

The Spartanburg Art Museum in Spartanburg, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Warhol & Friends: Five Minutes of Fame, on view through Nov. 20, 2010. The 72 photographic images, borrowed from the USC Upstate permanent collection, will be accompanied by other Pop Art works from Claes Oldenburg, Jim Dine, and Phyllis Yes.

Warhol is widely known for his infamous stereographs, and this exhibit will reveal the photographic images that were used by Warhol as studies for commissioned portraits and later works. These photographs were never shown during his lifetime.

The exhibit will utilize multi-media and works from other Pop artists to give context to Warhol and the Pop Art movement.  Visitors will even experience their own five minutes of fame with a personal photo shoot reminiscent of Warhol's "tin room".  The photographs will be displayed and included in the exhibit.

The Spartanburg Art Museum will finish up the calendar year addressing the popular arts with Warhol & Friends as a prelude to the museum's upcoming exhibition of Frank Warren's cultural phenomenon, Post Secret.

The Spartanburg Art Museum is located in the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg.
