Black Mountain Center for the Arts in NC, Offers Works by Members of Appalachian Pastel Society
The Black Mountain Center for the Arts in Black Mountain, NC, is pleased to host the Appalachian Pastel Society’s Juried Show, on view in the Upper Gallery, from Oct. 18 through Nov. 25, 2013. A reception will be held on Oct. 18, from 6-8pm.
When the Pastel Society was founded in 2006, the Black Mountain Center for the Arts was chosen to host its first juried show in October of that year. It has been happy to extend that relationship and watch the skill level of its members develop.
Since that time, people from around the region have gained a better understanding of the beauty and depth that can be achieved through works created primarily with soft pastels. The purpose of the society is the promotion, development and enjoyment of pastel art; it supports and sponsors exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, and creates opportunities for networking among its membership. More information about the APS can be found by visiting (www.appalachian-pastel-society.org).
This year’s Juror will be Marsha Savage. Savage is a well- known pastel artist and teacher from Smyrna, GA. Her paintings have been accepted into many shows and won many awards, and she is sought after for her teaching and demonstration skills. Savage’s paintings are in corporate and private collections across the United States. Her love for plein air work is about the journey of learning to observe correctly, which teaches her about color, atmosphere and light.
