Lowcountry Artists Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Sandra Roper

Lowcountry Artists Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present Southern Reflections, featuring works by Sandra Roper, on view from Oct. 4 - 31, 2013. A reception will be held on Oct. 4, from 5-8pm.

Having grown up in South Carolina, painting scenes depicting the South is a natural fit for Sandra Roper, she will be showing a series of paintings representing the history and architecture of Charleston as well as scenes depicting southerners passionately engaged in their work.

In each painting, there’s a story. In the paintings featuring Charleston’s architecture, Roper tries to recount the creativity and brilliance of Charleston’s centuries old architects. The uniqueness of each building and the eclectic mix of architectural styles make Charleston’s buildings so intriguing. The history that survives in these buildings is an endless source of inspiration.

In the paintings featuring southerners, Roper tries to preserve the traditions of the south and the passion for their way of life. The handling of the lighting is especially important in these paintings. The crack of dawn, dimly lit room or late night hours further illustrate the workers’ dedication to their work or tradition.

Roper is a graduate of USC. She worked in advertising for several years before she ventured out on her own art career. Her paintings of southern scenes have won several awards.
