McColl Center
for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Brian Knep
The McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC, will feature the unique and engaging work of Brian Knep in the exhibition Per (MUTATIONS): Interactive Work by Brian Knep, on view from Jan. 23 through Mar. 7, 2009. The exhibit was curated by Ce Scott.
Knep's work cleverly combines art, architecture, and science in a spontaneous manner. His dynamic, ever-evolving pieces range from video projections to large scale, site-specific, interactive installations that complement the surrounding environment. His work often responds to visitors' interaction by changing form or color, and explores personal and cultural aspects of change, healing, and memory. Knep is inspired by performing arts, and his pieces have much in common with choreography. Constantly in search of the "soul" in technology, the artistically designed computer programs become dancers sharing the floor with visitors.
The interactive works of Per (MUTATIONS) will engage viewers on many levels and turn them into participants in the exhibition. The extraordinary and often colorful forms of Knep's pieces offer a visual, tactile and visceral creative experience.
Knep lives and works in Boston and has exhibited his work throughout the country. Most recently his work was a part of a large interactive exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
McColl Center for Visual Art is an artists' residency program and gallery dedicated to promoting contemporary art and supporting artists regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Center's goal is to present art and artists in a way that engages and enriches the public while revealing the creative process through open studios, outreaches, community projects, and educational programs. The Center is supported, in part, with a Basic Operating Grant from the Arts and Science Council as well as the North Carolina Arts Council with funding from the state of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art and the generosity of corporate and individual donors.
