Charleston Presents Window Exhibit in Olde North Charleston, SC
The Cultural Arts Department of the City of North Charleston, SC, is presenting two exhibits in the windows of The Meeting Place, located in Olde North Charleston. The exhibitions which include works by Leigh Ann Davis and entries from the Beautiful Places photo contest will be on view from Jan. 2 through Feb. 28, 2009.
Leigh Ann Davis, a native of Clemson, SC, studied art history in Genoa, Italy, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in painting in 2003. In the summer of 2005, she moved from Philadelphia, PA, to Charleston, SC, to concentrate on building a new body of work. She is founder and president of the local chapter of the New York-based nonprofit organization Women's Caucus for Art. Her works featured in this exhibit present colorful abstractions in mixed media on panel.
The window also features the work of several local photographers. Over 60 entries from the Beautiful Places photograph contest will be on display. The contest, which took place in August, was organized by Keep North Charleston Beautiful, a volunteer organization initiated to enhance the City's image and beauty through ongoing beautification and education incentives.
The Meeting Place is located on East Montague Avenue in the revitalized Olde North Charleston Business District. Parking is free. Display window exhibits offer visitors a continuous opportunity to view artwork by different artists every other month. Proposals are being accepted and considered on a continuing basis. Further inquiries about this exhibition and exhibition opportunities may be directed to the North Charleston Cultural Arts Department.
The Cultural Arts Program is the recipient of the 2000 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for the Arts and receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, SC Arts Commission, and the corporate community.
