New Gallery and Ceramic Workcenter Opens in Columbia, SC
There will be an Exhibition of Gallery Artists at Southern Pottery in Columbia, SC, through Jan. 6, 2004. Artists exhibited include Kim Ellington, Bruce Gholson, Samantha Henneke, Karen Newgard, Peter Lenzo, Gay Smith, Virginia Scotchie, Mark Peters, David Hooker, Donna Craven, Mike Vatalaro, Ron Philbeck, Ken Baskin and others.
Southern Pottery will hold its grand opening with this exhibition. The galleries focus is on southern pottery by some of the top potters in the Southern United States. Southern Gallery and Workcenter Director Peter Lenzo curated this premier opening exhibition of potters who explore the realms of functional pottery. The majority of the pottery exhibited is fired in wood, salt and soda kilns.
The Southern Pottery Workcenter has begun offering
6 week classes to the public in handbuilt and wheel thrown pottery
for children and adults. This is the first ceramic workcenter
of its kind in the piedmont region of SC. Southern Pottery Gallery
and Workcenter is located in the heart of Columbia in the historic
Rosewood district of the city.
