Daniel Allegrucci

Three in Context presents artists working in different mediums who each incorporate historical references in their recent work.  The contexts that these three artists use as starting points for their individual artistic projects, may be masterpieces from the history of art, traditional craft techniques, literary works, or personal memorabilia. The exhibition will present quilted fiber works by Valarie Jean Bailey, wood block prints by Daniel Allegrucci, and oil paintings by Shaun Richards.

Three in Context curator, Edie Carpenter, has been the Curator at the Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art since 2005. Carpenter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history with a concentration in American Painting from Barnard College, Columbia University, NY. In 2000, Carpenter earned a European Masters degree in Museum Studies and New Media from Université de Lyon III, Lyon, France.

Ashley Lathe

Ashley Lathe's watercolors are about dynamics and process. The temperament of the medium becomes a record of a painting's creation by capturing the unaltered movement of the hand that produces the image. Painting is an act and watercolor becomes a record of that act - an artifact of the time and place it was created. Lathe's recent works have attempted to remove the artist's hand from the process to create records of other actions, such as the natural forces of rain and wind.

A native of North Carolina, Lathe began his art career via the commercial arts. Graduating in 1992 from East Carolina University in  Graphic Design and Illustration, he worked for several years in web design and marketing before teaching art classes at the university level. Lathe's work is represented in several corporate collections and publications. Currently his work focuses on the ability of watercolor to capture and record the rhythms of natural elements.

Christin Kleinstreuer

Over the years, the subject matter of Christin Kleinstreuer's paintings has included narrative, colorful landscapes and a variety of street art. The whimsy and imagination evident in her exhibition, Fantasy Abstracts, are the results of a new style of working that has evolved over the last couple of years. Kleinstreuer notes, "Early on, I always needed sources. Reality hampered my imagination. Recently, I have been able to open up and experiment with abstract images and bold colors."

A full time painter since 1999, Kleinstreuer's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her work is part of numerous collections. Most recently, the University of Canterbury in Christchuch, New Zealand, purchased a collection of her paintings for a new "tea lounge" its on campus.

The Artspace Artists Association invites the public to visit Artspace's Holiday Exhibition. Resident artists will present special exhibitions in their studios and non-resident members will fill the hallways with their most recent works - all unique holiday gifts!
