Lark & Key
Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Group Exhibition
Lark & Key Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present, REVISIT: A Group Exhibition, on view from Nov. 6 through Jan. 31, 2009.
Lark & Key Gallery invites you to revisit the works of a selection of artists, some familiar and some new. The exhibit features works by Duy Huynh, Charlotte Foust, Angie Renfro, Flora Bowley and Jen Swearington and introduces Linda Plaisted and Sofia Barao. Whether capturing a specific childhood memory, a favorite place in time or conjuring new worlds to explore, these contemporary artists represent the diversity and charm that defines Lark & Key.
The narrative paintings
of Duy Huynh symbolically reflect geographical and cultural displacement
with ethereal characters maintaining a serene, precarious balance,
often in a surreal or dreamlike atmosphere. Charlotte Foust constructs
mixed media narratives that are continual explorations of her
creative self, waking dreams that are released into the physical
world.
Texan native Angie Renfro is primarily inspired by long road trips
across the state, capturing the stark beauty with bold strokes
and calm, austere compositions while Flora Bowley creates multi-layered
paintings that celebrate the natural world, rich with color, soul
and imagination. Fiber artist Jen Swearington offers elements
of nostalgia in her one-of-a-kind fine art quilts taking the traditional
art form and giving it a modern twist through the use of less
traditional materials, subject matter and vibrant color.
Most recently, the gallery has added Linda Plaisted and Sofia
Barao to their roster. As one of the pioneers of contemporary
photographic illustration and photomontage, Plaisted's mixed media
pieces begin with original photography that she layers with paint,
textures, and fiber to bring them to full, vibrant life. Born
in Portugal and currently living in France, Barao is the first
international artist to join the gallery. Her mixed media
work is based on a juxtaposition of different materials and techniques
as she strives to keep trace, question identity and memories,
reinvent stories and rebuild the past.
Lark and Key will open a second location in November at 128-B East Park Avenue in Charlotte's SouthEnd area.
