Artists in Bluffton, SC, Features Works by Helen Evans
The Society of Bluffton Artists (SoBA) will present the exhibit, Thru My Eyes, featuring works by Helen Evans, on view from Nov. 16 through Jan. 4, 2010.
After a career as a
legal secretary and raising a family, Evans went back to school
and studied art at the College of DuPage. Initially working in
clay as a ceramic artist, she studied under internationally known
artist Jaime Suarez. Evans gradually switched to painting
and began her artistic endeavors in Liturgical Art, making pulpit
hangings and banners for churches in Illinois, Utah and Puerto
Rico.
Evans says, "I don't have a 'style', the subject determines
how it will be handled and what medium will be used. I am
attracted to a subject because it may present a challenge, it
may evoke a pleasant memory or one of melancholy - a subject that
speaks to me in some way." For Evans, art has been a
journey of not only learning the basics of laying on color, but
of expressing who she is and what she feels through her work. Her
show will feature landscapes and florals.
