Gallery C in Raleigh,
NC, will present the exhibits, Louis Orr Etchings of Historic
North Carolina Landmarks and Duncan Stuart, Works on Paper,
on view from Jan. 6 through Feb. 3, 2010.
Louis Orr
Orr is known for his
51 etchings of historic North Carolina landmarks that he created
between 1939 and 1951. He was sponsored by Senator Robert Lee
Humber of Greenville, NC. Senator Humber was instrumental in getting
the North Carolina Legislature to approve funding for the North
Carolina Museum of Art. Orr and Humber lived in Paris together
as young friends. This is the first time this complete collection
of etchings has been exhibited since 1995. Orr's style is
reminiscent of Rembrandt and Piranesi.
Duncan Stuart
Works on Paper by Stuart includes a series
of charcoal and pencil drawings from the late 1930s. Stuart was
a co-founder of the School of Design at North Carolina State University.
Stuart also helped Buckminster Fuller design the geodesic
dome. He was a respected educator and artist.
