Redux Contemporary
Art Center in Charleston, SC, Features Works by College of Charleston
Faculty & Students
Redux Contemporary Art
Center in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, 1 x 1:
College of Charleston Studio Art Department Faculty x Student
Exhibition, featuring works by all nine tenure studio art
faculty and one selected student, on view from Jan. 22 through
Mar. 6, 2010.
The exhibition celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the School of
the Arts at the College of Charleston. New works by all nine tenure
studio art faculty are featured and each of those faculty members
have selected one student. This exhibition is an opportunity for
the faculty to mentor their chosen student as they transition
from college to life as a professional artist. The show will be
curated to highlight the achievements of the student body.
The Faculty x Student combinations include: Barbara Duval x Marshall Thomas; Sara Frankel x Maddie Reyna; John Hull x George Davis; Cliff Peacock x Shelly Smith; Herb Parker x Lauren Moore; Michael Phillips x Sarah Haynes; Michelle Van Parys x Matthew Bowers; Steve Johnson x Samantha Theall; and Jarod Charzewski x Liz Vaughan.
A Commission of Higher Education report identified the College of Charleston Studio Art program as one of the best in the State. One very significant factor contributing to the success of our program has been the consistently superior caliber of our artist-teachers. The faculty is one of the strongest and most professionally involved in the State, if not the southeast. It includes a Prix de Rome winner, two Guggenheim Fellowship holders, and a Fulbright Fellowship holder.
Most studio art professors maintain studio space on campus, and all have extensive exhibition credits, nationally or internationally. Consequently, students work in a vital, creative environment.
Redux Contemporary Art Center is a non-profit gallery, studio, and education center. Through diverse programming and a full studio facility, Redux promotes and encourages all forms of artistic creation, while introducing and educating the public to current trends of contemporary visual art.
