Blowers Gallery in Asheville, NC, Features
Works by Robbie Lipe
UNC Asheville will exhibit 10 mixed media works by Robbie Lipe, on view from Nov. 7 - 30, 2010, in the Blowers Gallery on the main floor of the Ramsey Library at UNC Asheville in Asheville, NC. The show, Archaea: Secret Life in Yellowstone & Beyond, examines single-celled organism groups called archaea, which were among some of the earliest life forms on Earth and still exist today. Archaea can thrive in extreme habitats, such as the hot springs located in Yellowstone National Park, where they were first discovered.
Lipe is an art teacher at Vance Elementary School in Asheville and co-founder of ArtSpace Charter School in Swannanoa. Her work in this exhibition focuses on the connection of archaea to the beginnings of life on Earth and their possibilities for helping sustain and repair the natural environment.
