Artists' Guild of Spartanburg in Spartanburg,
SC, Offers Works by Dwight Rose
The Artists' Guild of Spartanburg in Spartanburg,
SC, will present the exhibit, Portraits of the World, featuring
a collection of watercolors by Dwight Rose, on view in the Guild
Gallery in the Chapman Cultural Center from Nov. 1 - 30, 2010.
The seven years Rose spent based in the Persian Gulf emirate of
Qatar, while traveling through Europe, Asia and Africa, gave him
a rich variety of subjects for his "Portraits." His
watercolors portray impressions of the Masai of Kenya, the landscapes
of China and the Caribbean, and the architecture of Santorini
and Rome.
Rose takes inspiration not only from these international journeys, but also from the medium of watercolor itself, which he has been exploring for twenty-five years. "The allure and magical spell" of the pigments and paper translate and transform the artist's visual experience in a way, Rose says, that "never gets old." He also grounds his creative impulses with a scholarly approach, studying how other watercolorists, past and present, have painted in this unique medium.
