The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Ted Ellis
The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Let Me Tell You My Story, featuring new works by Ted Ellis, on view from Nov. 4 - 30, 2011. A reception will be held on Nov. 4, from 5-8pm. Ellis will be painting on location the next morning, Nov. 5, in Washington Park as part of the CFADA Fine Art Annual weekend.
The paintings in this latest collection are inspired by Ellis’ memories of his childhood in New Orleans, LA. With a primitive style that is reminiscent of the Outsider Art movement, Ellis tells the stories of everyday African American life in the Deep South. His heavy brushstroke and frequent use of rich colors reveal the environmental influences of his rural subject matter. Motivated by teaching others about his style of life, Ellis says “I paint subjects that are representative of the many facets of American life as I know it. I like to think of myself as a creative historian. I was put here to record history…all aspects of American culture and heritage. My sole purpose has always been to educate through my art”.
Ellis, who currently resides in Friendswood, TX, has been recognized as one of the most celebrated artists of the 21st century. His private collectors are many and scattered throughout the globe. His work is also in many corporate collections including Walt Disney Studios, Coca-Cola, Phillip Morris, and Avon.
